Text:

Turning Into April

On the street,
the restaurant man sweeps up sidewalk sand
puts out a few patio tables and chairs.

At school,
windows catch children’s wandering eyes
custodian totes his mud mop everywhere.

In the park,
small snowbanks sprawl in the shade, but
backboards bang above busy feet.

In the yard,
booted child stamps glittering ice
to shards in the morning guttered street.

In the house,
someone puts away mitten and scarves,
turns, tears old March off the calendar.
